Overview of ARIB Standards (STD-T66)

1. Overview

STD Number ARIB STD-T66
Standard Name Second Generation Low Power Data Communication System/Wireless LAN System
General Description

This Standard specifies “Radio Equipment for Second Generation Low Power Data Communications Systems’ Radio Stations” and “Wireless LAN Systems’ Equipment performing radio communications primarily for data communication (including equipment connected to other facilities through telecommunication circuit) that use the frequency band of 2,400 – 2.483.5 MHz among radio stations for low power data communication systems regulated in Article 6 paragraph 4 item 4 of the Regulations for Enforcement of the Radio Law.

(corresponding to 1~13ch of IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ax/be and Bluetooth)

Note that requirements of the protocol are not prescribed. However, requirement of the protocol prescribed in ISO/IEC 8802-11 shall be used for interconnected systems.

2. Amendment History

Ver. Amendment or Enactment Date Amendment summary
3.8 03.01.2024

In March 2023, the report of the Study Group on the "Utilization of European and American Standard Test Data for Wireless LAN, etc." was published, and in November 2023, the ministerial ordinance and the notice for partial revision of the Radio Equipment Regulations for the purpose of the deregulation of the 2.4 GHz band wireless LAN system were in force.

This revision includes the implementation of the regulation changes, the update of the IEEE normative reference, simplification of the descriptions, addition of the new notifications in "Chapter 5 Test Methods for Specified Tests,“ and some editorial changes.

3.7 10.02.2014 The Ver.3.7 revision is prepared to add Annex 7 which recommends to use the channels separated with more than 5 channel intervals as CH 1/6/11 to prevent the degradation of throughput in 2.4 GHz band Wireless LAN System.
3.6 12.18.2012 At the time when this Standard was launched, this Standard specified to prepare stickers in which the precaution is noted as well as the same precaution in the manual in order to avoid interference to licensed stations (armature radio stations and premises radio stations of RFID equipment) as possible, because the stations of this System are non-licensed. However, the Ver.3.6 is revised to delete the requirement description of the sticker on considering that the operating number of armature radio stations and premises radio stations which were supposed to be interfered is decreased comparing with the number when this Standard was initially established.
3.5 04.26.2010 The Ver.3.5 revision is prepared for the error correction in the paragraph of “(3) antenna gain, 3 Principle of the leaky coaxial cable, Appendix 5 Leaky Coaxial Cable Manual”.
3.4 12.16.2009

The Ver3.4 is revised for the following items;

(1) The revision based on the Radio Equipment Regulations

(2) The expression of interference-causing radius in power unit is unified with power density unit.

(3) Appendix 5 “The leaky coaxial cable manual” is partly revised.

3.3 12.12.2008 The Ver.3.3 is revised in accordance with IPR corrections.
3.2 09.25.2008

The following items are applied to Ver.3.2 revision.

(1) The revised contents are added to “Chapter 3 Technical Requirements of Radio Equipment” in this Standard in accordance with the amendment of the Radio Equipment Regulation (Ordinance of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Telecommunications No.96 2008).

(2) The description in case of applying to the controller equipment of the model airplane for outdoor use is added to the operational guidelines of Annex 2 and Annex 3 in this Standard.

3.1 03.19.2008 The Ver.3.1 revision is prepared for the partial modification of Annex 6 “The design criteria and operational guidelines for the radio equipment of radio stations in the Second Generation Low Power Data Communication System available as a 40 MHz system”.
3.0 09.26.2007

The following items are applied to Ver.3.0 revision.

- The technical requirements, etc. are revised for the case that the occupied frequency bandwidth of the radio equipment is between above 26 MHz and below 38 MHz.

- “The design criteria and operational guidelines for the radio equipment of radio stations in the Second Generation Low Power Data Communication System as a 40 MHz system” is added as an Annex.

- The information that TELEC-T401 defined by Telecom Engineering Center can be referred is added to Chapter 5 Measurement Method in this Standard.

2.4 03.14.2006 The Ver.2.4 revision is prepared in accordance with the renaming of the other standard to which this Standard refers and mentions.
2.3 11.30.2005

The Ver2.3 revision is prepared according to the following items.

(1) The addition of Annex 5 Leaky Coaxial Cable Manual

(2) The permissible value of spurious emission etc., interim measures, measurement method and etc. are modified in accordance with the amendment of the technical regulation for the permissible value of spurious emission intensity.

2.2 09.29.2005

The Ver2.2 revision is prepared according to the following items.

(1) The addition of “Annex 4 Manual for the sector antenna restraint”

(2) The addition of “Annex 5 Leaky coaxial cable manual”

(3) Chapter 5 Measurement method is conducted pursuant to the attached table 1-1-(3) of the Technical Regulations Conformity Certification etc. for the specified radio equipment notified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Telecommunications.

2.1 03.26.2003

The operational manual is revised in Ver.2.1.

(1) The manual is revised to accept plural entering of modulation methods.

(2) The manual is revised to accept entering of estimated interference-causing radiuses.

2.0 03.28.2002 The Ver2.0 revision is prepared in accordance with the Ministerial Ordinance No. 21 (2002) for the introduction of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, the introduction of the high directivity antenna and the revision of operational guidelines, etc.
